At dusk in a restored Victorian terrace living room with an ornate plaster cornice, a smiling man presses a slim white wall switch by the doorway; two small wall lights wash the wall either side of a marble fireplace and a slim black pendant glows over a round oak table.

Control guide

Wireless DALI-2

Smart control. No new cables.

Retrofit without the wires.

Wireless control is the easiest way to add smart lighting control to a building that is already built.

How it works

Lights that pass the message on.

DALI-2 is the open standard for controlling lights digitally. In a wireless system, the control messages travel by radio instead of a cable.

A small building drawn in section, two floors of two rooms. In every room a wall switch, three downlights and a ceiling sensor each carry a small radio, and dotted links join each device to the next and each room to its neighbour, so one wireless mesh covers the whole building and every light is on. Wired DALI line
  1. 1Traditional wired DALI-2

    One line through the ceiling.

Normally the switches, sensors and drivers share a twin-pair DALI line.

  2. 2Wireless DALI-2

    Passed on, light to light.

The messages travel by radio. Each device passes them on to the next, so the network covers the whole space.

  3. 3Room by room

    It grows with the building.

Start with one room. Add more when the budget and the programme allow.

In a converted brick warehouse office, an electrician in a fluoro yellow hi-vis shirt and safety glasses, on a short platform ladder, works at the canopy of a slim black pendant while two colleagues carry on working at the long oak desk below.

Retrofits

Work happens at the light and the switch.

No control cable is run back through the walls and ceiling, so the space can stay in use.

A hand holds a phone showing a simple lighting app with a dimming slider, in a softly lit living room at dusk.

Set up in an app

Regroup and re-scene in an app. Nobody rewires.

Choose which lights belong to which room or group, and what each button or sensor does.

A heritage drawing room at dusk with an ornate plaster cornice and ceiling rose; a slim brass pendant hangs from the rose over a marble table, and two picture lights wash gilt-framed portraits on teal walls.

Heritage buildings

Leave the ceiling as it was made.

Control the lights where new cable runs would damage the original plaster and timber.

A hotel restaurant set for evening service: three slim brass pendants glow over a curved timber bar, small downlights light the tables, and a soft wash runs along the green banquette, with blue dusk at the arched windows.

Hospitality

One area at a time.

Update the lighting of a hotel, restaurant or bar area by area, while the rest of the space stays in use.

Same idea, different strengths

Three ways to go wireless.

All three send control by radio through a self-forming mesh, so no new control cable is pulled through finished ceilings and walls. Where they differ is how they reach the lights, how they work with wired DALI-2, and what else they do.

We work directly with all three. Which one suits a job depends on the space, the lights and how the building is used, so tell us about the project and we'll recommend one. Request a quote

One room, or the whole building?

ReadyToGoby

Just one room?

For one room that needs simple switching and dimming, ReadyToGo kits are the quick answer. Wireless DALI-2 is the whole-building option.
